Crucial Conversations: Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice & SF Black Wall Street

As you may know, Black domestic violence survivors face not only abuse from their perpetrators but also economic challenges perpetuated by societal injustices, which can trap them in cycles of abuse and hinder access to support systems.

That’s why, for the month of Juneteenth, we’re proud to host Tinisch Hollins, the Executive Director of Californians for Safety and Justice and the Co-Founder of San Francisco Black Wall Street, as our esteemed guest speaker. A survivor herself, Tinisch advocates for underrepresented crime survivors and has testified before the California legislature on several occasions to expand services. She currently serves on the San Francisco African American Reparations Advisory Committee as well as the San Quentin Transformation Advisory Council, demonstrating her commitment to building equitable communities and promoting rehabilitation over incarceration.

Californians for Safety and Justice is a nonprofit project leading the charge in advocating for common-sense solutions to replace prison and justice system inefficiencies. In the same regard, we will also be highlighting the SF Black Wall Street Foundation. They provide advocacy, foster strategic partnerships, and implement culturally relevant programming to make sure Black San Franciscans receive the investment, technical support, and access to sustainable opportunities we deserve.

Raquel “PRETTY BEAST” Miller shares her experience with young girls and leave them inspired by her story. Girls will leave Fight Like A Girl feeling brave, empowered, and equipped with confidence they can beat the world.

This year's retreat promises to be a rejuvenating and empowering experience, open to all individuals self-identifying as Black and female/GNC survivors of domestic violence. We believe in the healing power of community, and this retreat aims to provide a safe space for connection, reflection, and celebration of resilience.

If you identify as a survivor, or work with a client or community member that is interested in joining us at the retreat, please follow this registration link. We encourage clients and case managers to complete the registration process together. Please be aware that while registration is open, it doesn't guarantee participation. Our curated retreat environment prioritizes attendee support by carefully reviewing applications to ensure they meet specific parameters for a meaningful experience. Your understanding is deeply appreciated.

The registration deadline for our survivor retreat is February 4th. To secure your spot, we encourage you to register at your earliest convenience, as we anticipate reaching full capacity. Don't miss the chance to be a part of this empowering experience!

Love Like That: #TDVAM2024 Event

February is nationally recognized as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM). Everyone deserves a healthy relationship, but nearly 1 in 3 teens or young adults report experiencing teen dating violence. Together we can change that!

Black Women Revolt Against Domestic Violence will be hosting the "Love Like That'' TDVAM 2024 Event on Sunday, February 4th, 2024 from 12 Noon - 4:00 PM. Youth (14 - 24) and their allies will learn about healthy relationships, how to recognize unhealthy dating behaviors, set digital boundaries, and what resources are available for youth in San Francisco, CA.

The in-person event will be held in The Wilsey Education Studio of the San Francisco War Memorial Veterans Building at 401 Van Ness Ave, San Francisco, CA 94102 from 12 Noon to 4:00 PM. The venue can be reached via public transit including: Civic Center Station MUNI and BART, the 5, 9/9R, and 49 MUNI bus lines. Boxed lunch will be provided.

Youth (14 - 24) who attend the entire program are eligible for a $25 gift card. Participating students may earn community service hours depending upon their school’s criteria.

Additionally, entries in BWRADV Teen DVAM 2024 Art Contest “Imagination Unleashed '' will be displayed and winners will be announced. Entries to the Art Contest will be accepted through Friday, January 12th at 6:00 PM. For more information, please contact info@blackwomenrevolt.org.

Women's Empowerment Group

Black Women Revolt Against Domestic Violence is pleased to announce their new Women Empowerment Group. This group will be led by our Survivor Advocate, Anastasia Freeman.

We are so excited for the launch of our first Black Women's Empowerment Group. This group will focus on four key components: Integrative Nutrition, Career and Financial Literacy, Mental Health, and Self Development. Weekly groups will be a place where Black women can come together to heal, grow, uplift, and empower one another in a safe and confidential space. We are honored to have Anastasia serve as our facilitator.

Meetings will be held every Tuesday at 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM and refreshments will be provided. We have ample free parking and amazing monthly outings. If this sounds like something that your clients would like to be a part of, please feel free to share this link with them so that they can register online and they will be contacted for an initial interview for approval to participate in this group.

We look forward to empowering survivors and helping them build skills they need to help them heal from domestic abuse.

This conversation will delve into the broader context of homelessness and the collective efforts to provide housing and support for families in need. Proving safe spaces for families to escape domestic violence are imperative, and has been a dire necessity to fill in San Francisco for some time.

Crucial Conversations: SFPD Lethality Assessment

October’s discussion is with The San Francisco Police Department about BWRADV's "Domestic Violence Lethality Assessment".

The conversation will be facilitated by Officer Antonio "Tony" Flores, #683 Sergeant-Inspector of SFPD's Special Victims Unit. Officer Flores will be discussing the training and implementation of the DV Lethality Assessment tool, and what SFPD officers are observing now they are using their training in the field.
