Crucial Conversations with HCN's Black Birthing Health Initiative

This July, our Crucial Conversation turns to a life-affirming issue that is too often left in the margins—Black maternal health. As we continue to confront the systemic violence and disparities impacting Black women and families, we recognize the importance of safe, culturally rooted birthing care and reproductive justice.

We are deeply honored to welcome Maya Rodgers, leader of the Black Birthing Health Initiative at the Homeless Children’s Network (HCN). Through this groundbreaking program, HCN is working to interrupt the cycle of trauma by providing critical support for pregnant and postpartum Black women experiencing homelessness or housing instability in San Francisco. Their vision is clear: a city where Black birthing people are seen, heard, and supported through every step of their journey.

During this conversation, Maya will share how the initiative promotes healing, joy, and generational wellness by centering culturally affirming care and mental health support. This is a vital opportunity to explore the intersections of race, housing, reproductive justice, and survivor safety—and to uplift models of care that truly work for our communities.
